Not for use in pregnancy. Dutasteride is not for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. It can cause birth defects in a male fetus, and pregnant women should not handle crushed or broken capsules. Dutasteride stays in the body for months after stopping, so men are advised not to donate blood for at least six months after their last dose.
Common side effects. Temporary shedding in the first weeks, lightheadedness, ankle swelling, faster heartbeat, and unwanted hair growth elsewhere on the body from minoxidil. Reduced libido or sexual side effects from dutasteride are uncommon and usually resolve after stopping. Tell your provider about any side effect you think is related to this medication.
Talk to your provider first. If you have heart disease, low blood pressure, liver disease, or a history of depression, or if you are being treated for a chronic medical condition.
When to stop. Stop and contact your care team if you experience chest pain, fainting, or a severe reaction. For a medical emergency, call 911.
